    ODS-Mail Evaluate SMIME + WebID Support Guide

    The following guide presents steps how to evaluate the SMIME + WebID ODS-Mail Support:

    SMIME + Web ID Generated Certificate

    • Make sure you have SMIME + WebID Generated Certificate. You can follow these steps. So for ex. the Certificate to contain WebID:

    Setting up the Filter

    1. Go to http://cname:port/ods
    2. Log in as ODS user
    3. Go to ODS-Mail:



    4. Set External POP3 Account
    5. Set Filter by going to Manage -> Filters



    6. Click "Create Filter"



    7. In the shown form:
      • enter Name, for ex:

        My SMIME+WebID filter

      • Click "Add" for "Criteria" and add either:
        1. For Field "WebID (verified)" Condition "not equal to", with Value "Yes", or
        2. For Field "WebID" Condition "not equal to", with Value the WebID, for ex.: http://ods-qa.openlinksw.com/dataspace/person/john#this



      • Click "Add" for "Actions"and add:
        1. For Action: "Move to"
        2. For Value: "Spam"



    8. Click "Save"



    Setting Up Your Mail client

    Your mail client should be set so the be able to send digitally signed messages using the generated from above SMIME+WebID certificate. For example, if your mail client is Thunderbird (on Windows XP):

    1. Go to Settings-> Security



    2. In "Digital Singing" click "Select"
    3. Choose the certificate from above:



    4. Click "Ok"



    5. Hatch "Digitally sign messages (by default)"



    6. Click "Ok"
    7. Send mail to the account you have added to ODS-Mail from above as External POP3 Account:



    Retrieve the SMIME+Web ID Signed Message in ODS-Mail

    1. In your ODS-Mail Dataspace go to Manae -> External POP3 Accounts



    2. Click for your added from above external POP3 account "Check Now" in order to retrieve the new message(s) from this account.
    3. As result should be shown how many messages were retrieved. In our case it is the message we have send from above from the Thunderbird mail client



    4. Click the presented link for the new message
    5. As result should be shown the content of your external POP3 account retrieve messages folder:



    6. Click on the "Subject" column link for the new message containing our test from above:



    7. As result the message details will be displayed with additional information contained in the Option section for Signed and WebID values.

    Check the Filter by Sending a Regular Message with No Digitally Signed In

    1. Go to your other Mail client (for ex. Thunderbird) in Settings-> Security



    2. In "Digital Singing" click "Clear"



    3. Click "Ok"
    4. Send a regular mail message to the account you have added to ODS-Mail from above as External POP3 Account:



    5. Retrieve the Message(s) from your external POP3 account in ODS-Mail by clicking the "Check now" button.



    6. Finally, click the presented link of how many messages were retrieved.
    7. As result will be shown the external POP2 Account folder, but no new messages will be shown. Instead, the Spam folder will show indication for 1 new message.



    8. Go to the SPAM folder



    9. As result the regular message we have sent from above will be shown. Click its Subject or From links in order to view its details:
